ISO/IEC 21964 (which replaced the German DIN 66399 and is identical in content) classifies your storage media by protection requirement, media type and the required security level. We recommend the right combination and document it in the destruction certificate.
For internal data. Unauthorised disclosure would have limited negative impact on the company — e.g. internal work instructions, forms, catalogues.
For confidential data. Unauthorised disclosure would have significant consequences — e.g. quotes, orders with personal data, HR records, balance sheets.
For highly confidential and secret data. Disclosure could threaten the organisation's existence — medical records, engineering drawings, strategies, R&D documents.
